Why Sponsor the Strong Woman Project

On March 9 in Brisbane, Iron Advisory will be a proud co-sponsor of The Strong Woman Project’s SWP Talks. The SWP was created by Alicia Fistonich and Jill Wescombe in order to create transformation and reframing around the perception and promotion of women in the fitness industry. The Talks provide an inspiration-based event that incorporates sessions from speakers and experts about different areas of mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. These events serve as forums for ideas, networking opportunities and community building events.

SWP affirms that for too long, strength in the health and fitness industry has been defined, displayed, and communicated by images of women that reduces them to nothing more than their physical selves. SWP invites it collective to share stories and experiences of strength through overcoming real-world struggles of issues such as body image, eating disorders, physical and emotional abuse, and mental health challenges. They believe that what makes us strong is so much more than our physical selves.

At Iron Advisory, we whole-heartedly agree. There is a far greater definition of strength than what we can lift in the gym. At the same time, strength training can provide an escape from and method of dealing with issues such as stress, depression and anxiety. As a keen gym goer myself, gym has helped me deal with family problems, work problems and everyday life stressors. However, there is far more to me than the body I am in. As much as I love to compete in powerlifting and bodybuilding, my self-worth can in no way be measured by my results in these endeavours.

In short, we hope to be co-sponsors of the SWP going forward and support their mission and message as it is intrinsically linked to our own beliefs.
